Information and applications for our 2011 programmes are now available! These are 8- month professional development programmes that combine personal, professional, technical and business skills development.

Cornerstone: Entry level
 

Connection: Intermediate level (at least one year running your own construction business)
 

Re a abelana: More experienced level (at least 3 years experience running your own business or have completed Connection)

We combine training, seminar, site visits, interaction with industry role-players and a range of activities to create unique, dynamic and fun programmes.

Small Builders Management Training & Development Course

The Gauteng Master Builders Association (GMBA) is presenting the following course - starting this Saturday 5 February. They may still have a few spaces available - if you are interested, please contact Deon right away. The course would be valuable to small builders or your foremen and project leaders.

This course will be presented over a period of 6 months consisting of 12 sessions (classes will be from 8 till 12, every second Saturday) presented by a skilled tutor in the building and construction industry. Numbers are limited due to the structure of the course and so they can only take fifteen (15) candidates for this course at a tariff of R 2500 for the entire course.

Below are subjects that will be covered during the course:
 

  • Running a small business
  • Administration
  • Financial management
  • Contractual obligations
  • Finding and obtaining work
  • Finding and keeping customers
  • Estimating and tendering
  • Running an efficient building project
  • Planning and programming
  • Control and progressing
  • Work on site
  • General information
  • Managing your staff
  • Safety, IR and other legislation

Entry level to the course is being able to read and write English and a basic mathematical ability.

Labour-only Subcontracting Opportunity

Group Five Housing is looking for  Excellent Bricklayers (Dace and Stock) and Plasterers to potentially work on a mine at Postmasburg (Sishen). 

 They require the following:

  • Preferably Mine experiences.
  • Labour to have minimum of 5 Years experience.
  • Entrance and exit medical with be required
  • Training certificate are required
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 Bricklayers / plasterers per sub-contractor
  • Production based contracts. Minimum 600 bricks/day or 20m2
    plaster/day not negotiable
  • Labour rates have to be based on the civil labour agreements
    Unskilled R17.63/hour / Skilled R29.53/hour
  • Due to this the rates offered are:
    Stock Bricks R1000.00/thousand / Face bricks R1300.00/thousand.
    Internal and external Plaster R25.00/m2.
  • Group Five will pay for all accommodation, food, feeding and transport from the camp to the site.
    Transport from JHB to Postmasburg and return is for your own account.
  • All labour will be assessed at the Group Five training centre in Woodmead
